Welcome
We all face challenges, and it’s not always easy to ask for help. I’m glad you’re here.
When left unattended to, ongoing stress and emotional pain can deeply affect our well-being and too often,
the things and people we care about most.
Whatever brings you here is the right place to start.
I offer a warm, safe and nonjudgmental space where we’ll work together
to help you feel more connected to yourself and develop more resiliency and agency in your life.

I encourage you to reach out!
My Approach
Client-centered/Humanistic
This approach is grounded in the belief that we have within us, a natural capacity for self-healing and personal growth, and these internal resources can be accessed in the right climate of support. We can learn to better understand our own self-perceptions, increase feelings of self-worth and support ourselves in the here and now in finding our own knowing and what solutions and direction are right for us.
Internal Family Systems
"Parts work"
IFS therapy helps us understand and heal inner parts or different aspects of ourselves that may carry pain or try to protect us. By connecting with our calm, curious, compassionate Self, we can support these parts and restore inner balance. This approach is transformative rather than an efforting to "get rid of" or disown these aspects of ourselves.

Somatic
Somatic Experiencing is a therapy that helps release stress and trauma by gently tuning into physical sensations and allowing the nervous system to calm and restore balance. Instead of only focusing on thoughts and feelings, we learn to release the tension and energy of stuck survival responses and patterning in our systems. This focus is helpful in conjunction with IFS and other therapies.
About Susan

I am passionate about supporting people in times of need and helping them to find more clarity, self-understanding and agency in their lives. I also feel quite grateful for the opportunity to do this meaningful work and be a part of the lives of my clients for whom
I have deep care and respect.
I currently train in IFS/Internal Family Systems, often referrred to as "parts work" and Somatic Experiencing, a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and other stress-related disorders. I am also trained in EMDR/Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing for trauma, DBT/Dialectical Behavior Therapy for alcohol and substance abuse, Mindfulness, and CBT/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I hold a Masters Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and CBT/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the University of San Francisco. Some alternative pursuits to healing have included a Shaman journey in Peru, guided medicine journeys locally and in Costa Rica, equine (horse-assisted) leadership sessions, and Vipassana meditation. I enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors of the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.
I have over twenty years of experience in mental health and education, which prior to private practice, included crisis and suicide intervention, counseling children and teens with trauma, family crisis and dysfunction, social and learning issues and ADHD. Working with the emotional, cognitive, and developmental issues of children and their families has been invaluable to my therapeutic work with adults, as these earlier experiences can underlie so many adult struggles. I came into this work through my own process of self-discovery which is always evolving. As the youngest in a large family with generational histories of anxiety, depression and alcoholism, my experience has informed my foundational understanding of early attachment, coping and identity development within the family system, and how these influences can form our sense of self and safety within relationships and the world around us.
