Susan Jager, LMFT
Psychotherapy
Welcome
We can all use support in difficult times, but it's not always easy to ask for help. I'm glad you're here.
Ongoing difficulties and internal struggles can have a profound impact on our lives over time,
and yet many of us tend to keep struggling on our own at the expense of our well-being
and sometimes to that of the very things and people we care about most.
Whether you are experiencing stress and anxiety, emotional pain in a relationship, with a loss,
or with unwanted behaviors, therapy can offer a place in which to better understand
yourself and what you need in order to start creating more resiliency and agency in your life.
Whatever is bringing you here is the right place to start. My style is warm, engaging and nonjudgmental.
I create a safe space to help you express and experience yourself in new, helpful ways
and for us to collaborate on your behalf. I know it can be hard to take a first step.
I encourage you to reach out!

About Susan
I am passionate about supporting people in times of need and helping them to find more clarity, self-understanding and agency in their lives. I also feel quite grateful for the opportunity to do this meaningful work and be a part of the lives of my clients for whom
I have deep care and respect.
I bring over twenty years of experience in mental health and education, which prior to private practice, included crisis and suicide intervention, counseling children and teens with trauma, family crisis and dysfunction, social and learning issues and ADHD. Working with the emotional, cognitive, and developmental issues of children and their families has been invaluable to my therapeutic work with adults, as these earlier experiences can underlie so many adult struggles. As the youngest in a large family with generational histories of anxiety, depression and alcoholism, my experience has informed my foundational understanding of early attachment, coping and identity development within the family system, and how these influences can form our sense of self and safety within relationships and the world around us.
I am trained in Somatic Experiencing (ongoing), a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and other stress-related disorders, EMDR/Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing for trauma, DBT/Dialectical Behavior Therapy for alcohol and substance abuse, ACT/Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and CBT/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I hold a Masters Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and CBT/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the University of San Francisco. Some alternative pursuits to healing have included a Shaman journey in Peru, guided medicine journeys locally and in Costa Rica, equine (horse-assisted) leadership sessions, and Vipassana meditation. I enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors of the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.
